Sundern is a town and a municipality in the Hochsauerland district, in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is situated approximately 10 kilometers south-west of Arnsberg. The population of the town was 33,249 as of 21 July 2004. Sundern consists of 13 municipalities namely Endorf, Amecke, Stockum, Allendorf, Hagen, Wilde Wiese, Rohrenspring, Kloster Brunnen, Langscheid, Enkhausen, Hachen, Stemel and Sundern itself. Around Sundern extends the naturepark Homert, which attracts many tourists, to a large extent from the Netherlands. The Sorpesee, an artificial lake, is used by watersportsmen and campers. The total area of Sundern is 194 square kilometers.
 
The main industries of Sundern consist of several domestic and industrial lighting companies, household appliances and packaging businesses. The name Sundern is quite common in Westphalia, as it means ground given away for private usage in the Westphalian dialect. Sundern, due its various places of interest is one of the most visited places. It is also said the place of best geographical environment and can trace its origins back to prehistoric times. enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers, and is one of the most visited place.
