Oederan is a town in the district of Freiberg, in the free state of Saxony, Germany. It is situated 14 kilometers from southwest of Freiberg and 17 kilometers from east of Chemnitz.
 
The free state of Saxony is a federal state of Germany. It has a land area of 18,413 square kilometers and a population of 4.3 million, the tenth-largest in area and sixth-largest in population among Germany's sixteen states. Saxony has a long history as a duchy, and eventually as a kingdom. Freiberg is a district in the free state of Saxony, Germany. It is bounded by the district of Mittlerer Erzgebirgskreis, the city of Chemnitz, the districts of Mittweida, Meiben and Weiberitzkreis, and by the Czech Republic. The district was established in 1994 by merging the former districts of Freiberg, Brand Erbisdorf and Floha.
