Nossen is a town in Germany, in the district of Meissen, region of Dresden in the Free State of Saxony. The town lies 51 miles southeast of Leipzig. The town has an area of 50.5 square kilometers and as of 2005 had 7,623 inhabitants. The Free State of Saxony is a federal state of Germany. It has a land area of 18,413 square kilometers and a population of 4.3 million, the tenth-largest in area and sixth-largest in population among Germany's sixteen states.
Saxony shares borders with, from the east and clockwise, Poland, the Czech Republic and the German states of Bavaria, Thuringia, Saxony-Anhalt and Brandenburg. Its capital is Dresden, and the other principal cities are Leipzig and Chemnitz.
