Schonebeck is the capital of the district of Schonebeck, in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. It is situated on the left bank of the Elbe, approximately 14 kilometers southeast of Magdeburg. Schonebeck is also the seat of the Verwaltungsgemeinschaft, the collective municipality of Schonebeck, the Elbe. It consists of Plotzky, Pretzien, Ranies and Schonebeck Elbe municipalities. Its population till 2005 was 34,096 with an area of 58.36 square kilometers. Its population density was 584 per square kilometers. Saxony-Anhalt is one of the sixteen Bundeslander, the federal states that make up the Federal Republic of Germany. It has an area of 20,447 square kilometers and a population of 2.6 million. Its capital is Magdeburg.
