Schnackenburg is one of the popular destinations in Germany, well known for its beautiful countryside and the quantity of cultural related attractions. It is a town in the Luchow Dannenberg district of the Lower Saxony state. Situated on the left bank of the Elbe River, Schnackenburg enjoys peaceful lifestyle sheltered from the accelerated pace of the large cities and is a part of the collective municipality of Gartow.
 
Lower Saxony, where Schnackenburg is located, is one of the sixteen states in Germany and stretches over an area of 47,618 square kilometers. Lying in the north-western Germany, Lower Saxony is second in area and fourth in population. The area is named after the Saxons who earlier lived in Schleswig-Holstein and migrated to the left bank of the river Elbe until the middle of the first millennium AD. They then expanded over the whole of today's Lower Saxony and further.

Like some of its sister municipalities and towns, Schnackenburg is blessed with beautiful surroundings and a unique natural setting. The picturesque scenery, the majesty of nature, the slow pace of life, and the welcoming nature of its people all combine to make this region one of the most important tourist attractions in Germany.
