The free state of Saxony is a federal state of Germany. It has a land area of 18,413 square kilometers and a population of 4.3 million, the tenth largest in area and sixth largest in population among Germany's sixteen states. Saxony has a long history as a duchy and eventually as a kingdom.
 
Leipziger land is a district in the free state of Saxony, Germany. It is bounded by the districts of Delitzsch, the district free city Leipzig, Muldentalkreis, Mittweida, the district Altenburger land in Thuringia, and the districts Burgenlandkreis, Weibenfels and Merseburg Querfurt in Saxony Anhalt.
