Muhltroff is a town in the Vogtlandkreis district, in the Free State of Saxony, Germany. It is situated 10 kilometers southeast of Schleiz, and 16 kilometers northwest of Plauen. The Free State of Saxony is a federal state of Germany. It has an area of 18,413 squared kilometers and a population of 4.3 million. It is tenth largest in area and sixth largest in population among Germany's sixteen states.
 
Saxony has a long history as a duchy, and as a kingdom. Its monarchy was overthrown in 1918 and a republican form of government was established under its current name after Germany's defeat in World War I. After being eradicated during the communist rule, it was re-established in 1990 after the re-unification of the nation-state of
Germany from East and West Germany.
