Wegeleben is a town in the district of Halberstadt, in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. It is situated on the river Bode, east of Halberstadt. It is part of the Verwaltungsgemeinschaft Bode-Holtemme. Saxony-Anhalt is one of the sixteen Bundeslander, federal states, which make up the Federal Republic of Germany. It has an area of 20,447 squared kilometers, and a population of 2.6 million people. Its capital is Magdeburg. Its name is sometimes spelled Saxony Anhalt in English.
Saxony Anhalt is famous for its good soil. It contains the best soil in all of Germany and some of the best of Europe. The food industry has an important role in this state. Some of the best known products are Baumkuchen from Salzwedel or Hallorenkugeln from Halle. In the industrial sector, the chemical industry is quite important. One of the biggest chemical producing areas can be found around the cities of Wolfen and Bitterfeld. Because of the chemical industry Saxony Anhalt is also the largest receiver of Foreign Direct Investments in all of eastern Germany.
