Marktoberdorf plays host to a world renowned International Chamber Choir Competition every two years. The city had a population of 18,500 people in 2005. It covered an area of 95.25 square kilometers. Its population density is 194 people per square kilometers with elevation of 727 to 790 meters above sea level.

The Free State of Bavaria with an area of 70,553 square kilometers or 27,241 square miles and 12.4 million inhabitants, forms the southernmost state of today's Germany. Its capital is Munich. Bavaria shares international borders with Austria and the Czech Republic as well as with Switzerland. The major cities in Bavaria are Munich, Nuremberg, Augsburg, Regensburg, Wurzburg, Ingolstadt, Furth and Erlangen.
