Germany is located in Central Europe and it shares borders with Denmark in the North, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and France in the West, Austria and Switzerland in the South and Poland and the Czech Republic in the East. Wadern is the northernmost town of the German federal state Saarland, which is situated in the southwest of Germany. It is part of the district Merzig-Wadern. Wadern has approximately 12,000 inhabitants and consists of about 12 villages, the village of Wadern being of them. The biggest village within the town of Wadern is Nunkirchen, which is situated in the very south of the municipality.

Saarland is one of the 16 states of Germany. The capital is Saarbrucken. It has an area of 2570 square kilometers and 1.08 million inhabitants. In both area and population it is the smallest of the German area states. The state borders France in the south and west, Luxembourg in the west and Rheinland-Pfalz in the north and the east. It is named after the Saar River, which is a tributary of the Moselle River and runs through the state from the south to the northwest. Most inhabitants live in a city agglomeration on the French border, surrounding the capital of Saarbrucken.
