Tonisvorst is a town and a municipality in the district of Viersen, a Kreis or district in the west of North Rhine-Westphalia, in terms of population and economic output, the largest Federal State of Germany. Viersen’s neighboring districts are Cleves, Wesel, district-free Krefeld, Neuss, district-free Monchengladbach, Heinsberg and the Dutch province Limburg. Tonisvorst is situated approximately 5 kilometers from west of Krefeld, a city in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, located southwest of the Ruhr area, its center just a few kilometers to the west of the River Rhine.
 
As of 2004, Tonisvorst had a population of 30,406 residents living within an area of 44.33 square kilometers and had a population density of 686 residents per square kilometer. It is situated at an elevation of 36 meters above sea level.
 
Some of the notable attractions of Tonisvorst are the Das alte Rathaus, Der Mertenshof, Der Schluff or Dampflok, all of which are in Sankt Tonis, the Haus Raedt, Haus Brempt, Haus Neersdonk, Haus Donk, all of which are in Vorst and Der Gelleshof.
