Idstein (Hesse)
Germany is located in Central Europe and it shares borders with Denmark in the North, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and France in the West, Austria and Switzerland in the South and Poland and the Czech Republic in the East. The North Sea and the Baltic Sea represent additional National Borders in the North. The official language of Germany is German and Berlin is the capital.
Idstein is one of the popular destinations in Germany, and is well known for the quantity of cultural related attractions and monuments. It is a small town located between Limburg an der Lahn and Wiesbaden in the county Rheingau-Taunus of Hessen with around 22,000 inhabitants.
The earliest documentary found reveals the existence of the town even before 1102 century. Rudolf of Habsburg declared Idstein as a town in 1287 and gave it all the market rights. Soon after that in 1292, one count of Nassau, Adolf of Nassau, was elected as German king. He reigned in that capacity for five years.
The medieval town centre, together with the Hexenturm or the witch tower and the palace of the counts of Nassau-Idstein, attracts tourists from around the world. The palace, built in its current form in the 17th century, is now used as a high school. Idstein is also famous for the Unionskirche or unification church, where in 1817 the Protestant and Lutheran churches in Nassau were united. From the exterior, the church is a simple Gothic building but inside the ceiling is covered with oil paintings made by scholars of the famous Dutch school of Rubens.
Idstein has developed through local industrialization and urbanization. Among the most renowned companies positioned there are Black & Decker, with its headquarters, and Jack Wolfskin, a popular national outdoor brand. Other companies are involved producing supplies for the auto industry. The city is also well connected with direct half-hourly trains to Frankfurt, where many of the people living in Idstein work. Frankfurt and other important cities within the Rhein-Main area can also be reached through one of Germany's busiest transportations.
Like some of its sister municipalities and towns, Idstein is blessed with beautiful surroundings and a unique natural setting. The picturesque scenery, the majesty of the nature, the slow pace of life, and the welcoming nature of its people all combine to make this region one of the most important tourist attractions in Germany.
