Herzogenaurach is a town in Bavaria, Germany. It is located in the district of Erlangen-Hochstadt in middle Franconia and is the birthplace of sporting goods giants like Adidas and Puma and still the city of their headquarters. Population of Herzogenaurach was 23,112 in 2005 and its population density was 485 square kilometers. Herzogenaurach has about 24,000 inhabitants. It is located about 23 kilometers northwest of Nuremberg. At least 1000 years in existence, Herzogenaurach was first mentioned in a document in the year 1002 under the name of Uraha when king Heinrich II donated the town to the archbishopric of Bamberg.

The Argentina national football team was to have concentrated in May 2006 in Herzogenaurach for the 2006 FIFA, International Federation of Football Association World Cup. Notable people born in Herzogenaurach or residents such as Lothar Matthaus football player and the captain of 1990 FIFA World Cup winning team, Adolf Dassler - founder of Adidas, Rudolf Dassler - founder of Puma influenced the history of the city.
