Herzberg am Harz is a city in the Osterode district of Lower Saxony, Germany. In the past, important industries of Herzberg have included the founding and turning of metal, agricultural machinery, and boot making. As of 2004, the population of Herzberg was 14,872. The mayor of the city is Gerhard Walter of the Christian democratic union. Herzberg is the location of the Interkultura Centro Herzberg, a club that promotes the artificial language Esperanto. In 2006, the city council decided to advertise Herzberg as the Esperanto city.
 
Herzberg castle was first mentioned in 1154. The town was part of the state of Brunswick-Grubenhagen, and the castle was for some time used as a residence by the dukes. Herzberg became a city in 1929. Herzberg, justifiably so, enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers, and is one of the most visited place. It is also said the place of best geographical environment and can trace its origins back to prehistoric times.
