Hemmoor is a town and a municipality in the district of Cuxhaven, in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is situated near the river Oste, approximately 40 kilometers northeast of Bremerhaven, and 25 kilometers south of Brunsbuttel. The Portland cement factory operated from 1866 to 1983 delivered the concrete for the statue of liberty in New York.
Lower Saxony borders on from north and clockwise the North Sea, the states of Schleswig-Holstein, Hamburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Brandenburg, Saxony-Anhalt, Thuringia, Hesse and North Rhine-Westphalia, and the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The state of Bremen forms two enclaves within Lower Saxony. The state's principal cities include Hanover, Braunschweig, Osnabruck, Oldenburg, and Gottingen.
