Dohna is a town in the Sachsische Schweiz district, Saxony, Germany. It is located south of Heidenau in the Muglitztal and is west of the Osterzgebirge. It was known as Donin in 1107, 1160 and until 1206. Donyn in from 1288 to 1408. Doneyn unwil 1454 and other forms were Dhonin, Donow and became Dohna. The name comes from Besitz des Don from the Bohemian first name Zdon. It is accessed by routes 172 and 172A, and by the A17 at the Pirna interchange. Its population in 2005 was 6,103 and it covered an area of 28.57 square kilometers. Its population density is 214 per square kilometers. Elevation is 130-150 meters.

Dohna is one of the oldest cities in Saxony. It dates back between the 16th century BC and the Bronze Age. It was linked by the Bohmische Strasse and the Alte Dresden Teplitzer Poststrasse. It was first mentioned in 960 by Otto I. The Burggrafschaft was laid between Markgrafschaft Meissen and Kingdom of Bohemia and Gottleuba. The Donins were defeated in 1402 by the Dohnaischen Fehde and Dohnaischen Feud.

The castle was the seat until 1460 as it moved to Schloss Sonnenstein in Pirna. Its constitution was received in 1845. The area was affected with wars created miseries and diseases. The Napoleonic Wars occurred in Dohna in 1813 when the city was devastated by French and Russian troops. In 1999, Kottewitz and Krebs joined Dohna. In January 1, 2002, Dohna became the seat of Verwaltungsgemeinschaft Dohna. The sites of interest are Castle tower, constructed in the 19th century Postmeilensaule, built in 1731 and Alten Apotheke, built in 1690, a local historical museum since 1992.

Dohna can also be considered as the preeminent, historical and potential tourism destination that enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers to become one of the most visited places.
