It is a town and a municipality in the Saarpfalz district of Saarland. Topographically, the city is located on the river Blies, approximately 6 kilometers east of Neunkirchen, and 25 kilometers northeast of Saarbrucken. The town stretches over a land area of 31.09 square kilometers and listed a population of 19,008 as of 2005.
