Artern is a city in Thuringia, Germany. It is situated at the convergence of the rivers Unstrut and Helme, 12 kilometers south of Sangerhausen. Artern is part of the Kyffhauserkreis district. It has railway connections to Erfurt, Naumburg and Sangerhausen. The Population of the city in 2004 is 6,344. It has an Evangelical church, and numerous schools. The machinery, sugar and boots with many other products are manufactured in Artern. Its brine springs, known as early as the 15th century, are still frequented.
