Wismar




Germany is located in Central Europe and it shares borders with Denmark in the North, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and France in the West, Austria and Switzerland in the South and Poland and the Czech Republic in the East. The North Sea and the Baltic Sea represent additional National Borders in the North. The official language of Germany is German and Berlin is the capital. Germany is divided into 16 states which are further subdivided into 439 districts and cities. Germany is one of the largest European economy and the third largest economy in the world in real terms, placed behind the United States and Japan, and fifth behind the United States, China, India and Japan counted by purchasing power parity.
 
Wismar is one of the preeminent and popular destinations in Germany known for its historic myths and traditions, scenic beauty, cooperative people and luxurious hotels and cottages. It is small port and Hanseatic League town in northern direction of the Baltic Sea. Its natural harbor is located in the Bay of Wismar and is well-protected by a promontory.
 
According to the historical findings, Wismar is said to have gained civic rights in 1229, and came into the possession of Mecklenburg in 1301. It is historically important due to the important events that took place here. The centre of the old town is the huge market place which is the largest in Germany, surrounded by elegant buildings with styles ranging from 14th-century North German Gothic to 19th-century Romanesque revival. Another notable building in the square is an ancient Gothic warehouse called Alter Schwede that is the Old Swede, erected around 1380.
 
Wismar has many historically important buildings and a pleasant geographical environment that attracts worldwide travelers. The town also boasts many traces of its colonial past and enjoys peaceful lifestyle sheltered from the accelerated pace of the large cities.
