Saarbrucken

Germany is located in Central Europe and it shares borders with Denmark in the North, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and France in the West, Austria and Switzerland in the South and Poland and the Czech Republic in the East. The North Sea and the Baltic Sea represent additional National Borders in the North. The official language of Germany is German and Berlin is the capital.

Saarbrucken is the capital of the Saarland Bundesland which is situated in Germany. In year of 2005, the city had a population of 178,838 inhabitants. The city has an area of about 167.07 square kilometers with a population density of 1,070 per square kilometers. The city sits at the heart of a metropolitan area of 1.1 million people.

Saarbrucken used to be the industrial and transport centre of a great coal basin and factories here produced iron and steel, sugar, beer, pottery, optical instruments, machinery and construction materials. However, over the past decades the industrial importance of Saarland has declined, as it is much cheaper, even for German companies, to import coal from lower-wage countries instead of buying it here. Historic landmarks in the city include the stone bridge across the Saar 1546, the Gothic church of Saint Arnual, the 18th century Saarbrucker Schloss castle and the old part of the town, the Saint Johanner Market.

Saarbrucken have some of the closest big cities are Trier, Luxembourg, Nancy, Metz, Kaiserslautern, Karlsruhe and Mannheim. Saarbrucken is also connected by the city's public transport network to the town of Sarreguemines in France, allowing easy crossing of the border between one country and the other. In infrastructure of the city is served by the Saarbrucken Airport and is also the home of the main campus of Saarland University. Saarbrucken has a tramway called the Saarbahn.

Presently, Saarbrucken experiences a sharp social, economic and population growth derivative of the strategic position of the locality and the high level of well-being and quality of life that is enjoyed with respect to other places of Germany. Saarbrucken, justifiably so, enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers, and is one of the most visited place.
