Magdeburg




Germany is located in Central Europe and it shares borders with Denmark in the North, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and France in the West, Austria and Switzerland in the South and Poland and the Czech Republic in the East. The North Sea and the Baltic Sea represent additional National Borders in the North. The official language of Germany is German and Berlin is the capital. The climate is quite pleasant with almost all variety of seasonal flavors as temperate, marine, cool, cloudy, wet winters and summers, occasional warm, tropical foehn wind and high relative humidity. Germany is divided into 16 states which are further subdivided into 439 districts and cities.
 
Magdeburg, the capital city of the Bundesland of Saxony-Anhalt, which is situated in Germany, lies on the Elbe river. The city has a population of 228,515 in the year of 2005 and occupies an area of 200.94 kilometers. Its population density is 1,137 per kilometers. In discovered history, Magdeburg was one of the most important medieval cities of Europe. Emperor Otto I lived during most of his reign in the town and was buried in the cathedral after his death.
 
Cathedral of Magdeburg included most impressive building, the Cathedral of Saints Catherine and Maurice. It has a height of 104 meters, the highest church building of eastern Germany. The predecessor of the cathedral was a church built in 937 within an abbey, called St. Maurice. On the other hand, the Town Hall which was built in 1698 had stood on the marketplace since the 13th century, but it was destroyed in the thirty years war. The new town hall was built in a Renaissance style influenced by Dutch architecture. The city has monuments depicting emperor Otto I which means old marketplace built in the year 1240.
 
Magdeburg, justifiably so, enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers, and is one of the most visited place. It is also said the place of best geographical environment and can trace its origin back to prehistoric times. Presently, Magdeburg experiences a sharp social, economic and population growth derivative of the strategic position of the locality and the high level of well-being and quality of life that is enjoyed with respect to other places of Germany.
