Lahr




Germany is located in Central Europe and it shares borders with Denmark in the North, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and France in the West, Austria and Switzerland in the South and Poland and the Czech Republic in the East. The North Sea and the Baltic Sea represent additional National Borders in the North. The official language of Germany is German and Berlin is the capital.
 
The climate of Germany is quite pleasant with almost all variety of seasonal flavors as temperate, marine, cool, cloudy, wet winters and summers, occasional warm, tropical foehn wind and high relative humidity. Germany is divided into 16 states which are further subdivided into 439 districts and cities. Germany is one of the largest European economy and the third largest economy in the world in real terms, placed behind the United States and Japan and fifth behind the United States, China, India and Japan counted by purchasing power parity.
 
Lahr is a city situated in western Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany, approximately at 38 kilometers to the north of Freiburg in Breisgau and 100 kilometers to the south of Karlsruhe. It is the second largest city in Ortenau after Offenburg and serves as an intermediate economic center to the cities and towns of Ettenheim, Friesenheim, Kappel-Grafenhausen, Kippenheim, Mahlberg, Ringsheim, Rust, Schuttertal, Schwanau and Seelbach.  The population of the city as of September 30, 2005 was 43,810. The area of the city is 69.79 square kilometers with a density of 625 per square kilometer. Lahr developed around the Storchenturm owned by the House of Geroldseck around 1220 and received a city charter around 1278.
 
Lahr is located at the western edge of the Black Forest where the Schutter Valley merges into the Upper Rhine River Plains from the east. The region around Lahr belonged at first to the Archdiocese of Strasbourg. Residents of such boroughs elect their borough council at each municipal election and the borough council must be consulted on all matters of significance to the respective borough.
 
Lahr is also known as the town of best geographical environment and has traced its origins back to prehistoric times. Today, one can also learn about its history, from its earliest times and can also enjoy its natural beauty concealed by the beautiful landscapes.
