Gorlitz

Germany is located in Central Europe and it shares borders with Denmark in the North, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and France in the West, Austria and Switzerland in the South and Poland and the Czech Republic in the East. The North Sea and the Baltic Sea represent additional National Borders in the North. The official language of Germany is German and Berlin is the capital. The climate is quite pleasant with almost all variety of seasonal flavors as temperate, marine, cool, cloudy, wet winters and summers, occasional warm, tropical foehn wind and high relative humidity.

Gorlitz is a town in Germany near the Neibe River in the Bundesland, Federal State of Saxony. It is situated opposite of the Polish town of Zgorzelec, with which it was united in 1945 and is presently the eastern city of Germany. In the past, it belonged to the regions of Lusatia and Silesia for many times. Its foundation date is unknown, though it was mentioned at 1071. At that period, it was a small village with the name of Gorelic in the region of Lusatia. In the 13th century, it gradually turned into a city. Because of its location on the Via Regia, an ancient and medieval trade road, it became a rich city. In the following centuries, Gorlitz became a wealthy member of the Six-City League of Upper Lusatia. The league consisted of the six Lusatian cities, Bautzen, Gorlitz, Kamenz, Lauban, Lobau and Zittau.

Today Gorlitz and Zgorzelec have friendly relations and two bridges are built, which connect the German and Polish parts of the town. There is a common urban management, with yearly sessions of both town councils. The town has a rich architectural legacy including gothic, renaissance, baroque, historicist and art nouveau. It was opposite to the other German cities that were not destroyed during the World War II. An example for such a rich architectural heritage is the Schonhof, which is the oldest civil baroque building in Germany.

Gorlitz is considered as the preeminent, historical and potential tourism destination that enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers to become one of the most visited places.
