Bottrop

Bottrop is a city in west central Germany, on the Rhine-Herne Canal, in North Rhine-Westphalia. It is located in the Ruhr industrial area and adjoins Essen, Oberhausen, Gladbeck and Dorsten. Bottrop was a coal-mining and rail center and contains factories producing coal-tar derivatives, chemicals, textiles, and machinery. Its population is currently 119,655 inhabitants. Bottrop grew as a mining center in the 1860s and was chartered as a city in 1921. In 1975 Bottrop unified with the adjoining communities of Gladbeck and Kirchhellen, but Gladbeck left it in 1976, leading to Kirchhellen becoming a district of Bottrop as Bottrop-Kirchhellen.
 
Bottrop is also known as the town of best geographical environment and has traced its origins back to prehistoric times. Today, one can also learn about its history, from its earliest times and can also enjoy its natural beauty concealed by the beautiful landscapes.
