Bamberg




Germany is located in Central Europe and it shares borders with Denmark in the North, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and France in the West, Austria and Switzerland in the South and Poland and the Czech Republic in the East. The North Sea and the Baltic Sea represent additional National Borders in the North. The official language of Germany is German and Berlin is the capital. The climate is quite pleasant with almost all variety of seasonal flavors as temperate, marine, cool, cloudy, wet winters and summers, occasional warm, tropical foehn wind and high relative humidity.
 
Germany is divided into 16 states which are further subdivided into 439 districts and cities. Germany is one of the largest European economy and the third largest economy in the world in real terms, placed behind the United States and Japan, and fifth behind the United States, China, India and Japan counted by purchasing power parity.
 
Bamberg is a city in Bavaria, Germany. It is located in Upper Franconia on the river Regnitz. In 2004, the population of the city was 71,014 inhabitants in an area of 54.58 square kilometers. During the post-Roman centuries of Germanic migration and settlement, it was a part of the Diocese of Bamberg that was populated for the most part by Slavs. The region was Christianized by the monks of the Benedictine Abbey of Fulda and the land was under the spiritual authority of the Diocese of Wurzburg.
 
Bamberg lies in northern Bavaria, 63 kilometers north of Nuremberg by railway and 101 kilometers east of Wurzburg, also by rail. From northeast to southwest, the town is divided in the Regnitz plain. One large and numerous small islands formed by two arms of the Regnitz was a part of the town on its hills. The most famous beer companies of the town are Schlenkerla Aecht, Schlenkerla, and Rauchbier from the Heller brewery. It can be enjoyed fresh at the Schlenkerla tavern on the Dominikaner Strasse in the old town.
 
The University of Bamberg, named Otto-Friedrich University, offers higher education in the areas of social science, business studies and the humanities and is attended by more than 8,000 students. Bamberg is also home to eight secondary schools called Gymnasien.
