Prenzlau is a city in the Uckermark district of Brandenburg, Germany. Its population is about 21,000 inhabitants in the year 2005. Brandenburg is one of Germany's sixteen Bundeslander federal states. It lies in the east of the country as it is one of the new states created in 1990 upon the reunification of the former West Germany and East Germany.
Uckermark is a Kreis in the northeastern part of Brandenburg, Germany. Neighboring districts are Barnim and Oberhavel, the districts Mecklenburg Strelitz and Uecker Randow in Mecklenburg Western Pomerania, and to the east Poland. The district is the largest district of Germany areawise. The region is named after the Uecker river, which is a tributary of the Oder.
