Peitz is a town in the district of Spree Neibe, in southeastern Brandenburg, Germany. Brandenburg is one of Germany's sixteen federal states. It is located in the east of the country as it is one of the new states created in 1990 upon the reunification of the earlier West Germany and East Germany. The capital is Potsdam. Brandenburg borders but excludes the national capital Berlin. This town is situated 13 kilometers from northeast of Cottbus. Surrounded by freshwater lakes, it is famous for its fishing industry. The town was at once time on the border between the states of Brandenburg and Saxony, and was once surrounded by strong artillery fortifications built in brick, dating from the 16th century. Only small parts of these stay.
