Schonau im Schwarzwald is a town in the district of Lorrach in Baden Wurttemberg, Germany. It is positioned in the Black Forest, on the river Wiese, which is 35 kilometers from northeast of Basel and 23 kilometers from south of Freiburg. Baden Wurttemberg is a state of the Federal Republic of Germany in the southwestern part of the country to the east of the Upper Rhine. It is in both area and population amongst the country's sixteen states, with an area of 35,742 square kilometers and a population of 10.7 million inhabitants. The state capital is Stuttgart which is the third largest.
