Schlieben is a town in the Elbe-Elster district, in southwestern Brandenburg, Germany. It is located 22 kilometers north of Bad Liebenwerda. Schlieben was the site of a concentration camp during the Holocaust.
 
Brandenburg is one of Germany's sixteen Bundeslander that is federal states. It lies in the east of the country as it is one of the new states created in the year 1990 upon the reunification of the earlier West Germany and East Germany. The capital is Potsdam. Brandenburg surrounds but prohibits the national capital Berlin. In history Brandenburg was an autonomous state which grew to become the center of modern Germany.
