Sankt Goarshausen (Rhineland-Palatinate)

Germany is located in Central Europe and it shares borders with Denmark in the North, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and France in the West, Austria and Switzerland in the South and Poland and the Czech Republic in the East. The North Sea and the Baltic Sea represent additional National Borders in the North. The official language of Germany is German and Berlin is the capital.

Germany is divided into 16 states which are further subdivided into 439 districts and cities. Germany is one of the largest European economy and the third largest economy in the world in real terms, placed behind the United States and Japan, and fifth behind the United States, China, India and Japan counted by purchasing power parity.

Sankt Goarshausen is one of the popular destinations in Germany, well known for its beautiful countryside and the quantity of cultural related attractions. It is a town in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate and is the site of the township association Loreley. Sankt Goarshausen enjoys peaceful lifestyle sheltered from the accelerated pace of the large cities.

Today, the earlier very busy town is losing its importance and relies more and more on tourism. The town is above all famous for the Lorelei rocks nearby. Close to the town in the hillside just above it, there also lies the ruins of Castle Katz from 1806. The most important economic areas for Sankt Goarshausen are tourism and wine making.

Due to the Sankt Goarshausen’s location, transportation connections are below par. The town is only reachable by ferry, as the closest bridge is 30 kilometers away. While there is an established need for a bridge across the Rhine, plans for connecting the town has not yet been realized. To help tourism, a visitors’ centre has been established in connection to the Lorelei rock.

Presently, Sankt Goarshausen experiences a boom with day tourists, owing to the clear air, town character with rich culture and high quality of life. The picturesque scenery, the majesty of nature, the slow pace of life, and the welcoming nature of its people also combine to make this region one of the most important tourist attractions in Germany.
