Putlitz is a town in the district of Prignitz, a Kreis or district in the northwestern part of Brandenburg, lies in the east of the country as it is one of the new states created in 1990 upon the reunification of the former West Germany and East Germany. Prignitz’s neighbors are, from the north clockwise, the districts Ludwigslust and Parchim in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the district Ostprignitz-Ruppin, the district Stendal in Saxony-Anhalt and the district Luchow-Dannenberg in Lower Saxony.
Putlitz is situated 15 kilometers northwest of Pritzwalk, a town in the district of Prignitz, in Brandenburg and 35 kilometers northeast of Wittenberge, a town on the lower Elbe in the district of Prignitz, Brandenburg.
