Tonning is a town in the district of Nordfriesland a district in Schleswig-Holstein, is the northernmost of the 16 Bundeslander in Germany. Nordfriesland includes almost all of traditional North Frisia along with adjacent areas to the east and south and is bounded by, from the east and clockwise, the districts of Schleswig-Flensburg and Dithmarschen, the North Sea and the Danish county of South Jutland.
 
Tonning lies on the Eider River, the longest river of the German state of Schleswig-Holstein, starting south of Kiel near the shores of the Baltic Sea, flowing to the west and ending in the North Sea, and Tonning is situated near its mouth at the North Sea. Tonning has a population of approximately 5,000 inhabitants.

Tourism in Germany has expanded since the end of World War II, and many tourists visit Germany to experience a sense of European history. The countryside exhibits a pastoral aura, while its cities exhibit both a modern and classical feel.
