Loningen is a town and a municipality in the district of Cloppenburg, which is in state Lower Saxony, located in Germany. It is situated on the river Hase, roughly 25 kilometers southwest of Cloppenburg. Lower Saxony lies in north-western Germany and is second in area and fourth in population among the country's sixteen Lander states of Germany. In rural areas, Low German is still spoken, but the number of speakers is declining. The state has an area of 47,618 square kilometers and nearly eight million inhabitants.
