Kuhlungsborn is a town in the district of Bad Doberan, in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany. It is situated on the Baltic Sea coast, 11 kilometers northwest of Bad Doberan, and 25 kilometers northwest of Rostock. Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is a state in northern Germany.
 
It has an area of 23,170 square kilometers, but has only 1.7 million inhabitants, making it the most sparsely populated German state. The Baltic Sea's beaches and islands, as well as the many lakes in the interior, attract many tourists every year. There are two universities and a number of universities of applied sciences. As it is often regarded as among the most beautiful parts of Germany, it is one of the most visited places amongst the most die-hard travelers the world over.
