The population of the city Lommatzsch was 5,875 in the year 2005 in an area of 66.47 square kilometers and its population density was 88 people per square kilometers. Lommatzsch lies amidst the so called Lommatzscher Pflege, an area of land that is featuring top quality loessic soil and therefore is mostly used agriculturally.
 
The Free State of Saxony is a federal state of Germany. It has a land area of 18,413 square kilometers and a population of 4.3 million, the tenth largest in area and sixth largest in population among Germany's sixteen states.
