Lauterbach is a municipality in the Vogelsbergkreis district of the federal state of Hesse in central Germany. The population of Lauterbach was 14,462 in the year 2005 in an area of 102 square kilometers. In 1972, numerous villages incorporated into the town of Lauterbach that are Allmenrod, Frischborn, Heblos, Maar, Reuters, Rimlos, Rudlos, Sickendorf, Wallenrod and Wernges. Lauterbach was founded between 400 and 800 Anno Domini. In 812, the town was mentioned for the first time in a document of the church in Schlitz. In the middle ages, Lauterbach belonged to the cloister in Fulda.  
 
The various attractions of the city are as follows Ankerturm tower, Lauterbacher beer, Schrittsteine Stepping stones. The Ankerturm is the only remaining tower of the city wall. It was used to be an observation tower. Temporarily it was also used as a prison. Lauterbacher beer is the oldest beer of Hesse. The brand has existed from 1527. The stepping stones were used as a shortcut to get to the local water fountain.
