Laucha an der Unstrut (Saxony-Anhalt)

Laucha an der Unstrut or Laucha to the Unstrut is one of the popular destinations in Germany, and is well known for the cultural related attractions and monuments. It is a town in the Burgenlandkreis district of Saxony-Anhalt state. Situated on the banks of river Unstrut, northwest of Naumburg, Laucha an der Unstrut is a part of the collective municipality Unstruttal.
Laucha is a former ribbon-built village at the old army route of Langensalza and Freyburg-Merseburg. The name of the city comes from Slawi and means as much as swampy area. The Unstrut forms the northern border of the place. North and south the valley rise the mountains, whose underground of shelly limestone stone and those consist up of new red sandstone.
In the year 1124, Laucha was mentioned for the first time in the documentary. By the Vasallen king Wenzel of Boehmen, land count Herzog Friedrich the younger one of Meissen, received Laucha. However, Laucha in the course of the centuries suffered large damage not only by wars, but also by natural catastrophes.
