Herzberg Elster is a town in the Elbe-Elster district of the German federal state of Brandenburg. As of 2004, its population was 10,968 and the mayor of the town is Michael Oecknigk of the Christian democratic union. Herzberg is twinned with the following cities like Budingen in Hesse, Swiebodzin in Poland, Dixon in United States of America and  Soest in north Rhine-Westphalia.

Herzberg, due its various places of interest is one of the most visited places. It is also said the place of best geographical environment and can trace its origins back to prehistoric times.
