Hermsdorf is a town in the Saale-Holzland district of the state of Thuringia in eastern Germany. As of 2003, its population was 8,745. The mayor of the town is Gerd Pillau. The free state of Thuringia lies in central Germany and is among the smallest of the country's sixteen Bundeslander that is federal states, being eleventh in size with an area of 16,200 square kilometers and twelfth most populous with 2.45 million inhabitants. The capital of Thuringia is Erfurt. Thuringia borders on the German states of lower Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Saxony, Bavaria and Hesse.
