Heiligenhafen is a town in the district of Ostholstein, in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. It is situated on the Baltic Sea coast, opposite the island Fehmarn, roughly 60 kilometers northeast of Lubeck, and 55 kilometers east of Kiel. The term Holstein derives from the Old Norse and Old Saxon, Holseta Land, meaning simply woodland. Schleswig-Holstein lies on the base of the peninsula of Jutland between the Baltic Sea and the North Sea.
