Geisa is a city in the Wartburgkreis district, in Thuringia, Germany. It is located in the Rhon Mountains, 26 kilometers northeast of Fulda. Named after the Thuringian people who occupied it around 300 Anno Domini, Thuringia came under Frankish domination in the 6th century, forming a part of the subsequent Holy Roman Empire.
 
The Free State of Thuringia lies in central Germany and is among the smallest of the country's sixteen federal states, being eleventh in size with an area of 16,200 square kilometers and twelfth most populous with 2.45 million inhabitants. The capital is Erfurt. Thuringia borders on the German states of Lower Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Saxony, Bavaria and Hesse. Thuringia is divided into 17 districts.
