Frankenau is a small town in Waldeck-Frankenberg district in Hesse, Germany and lies in the Kellerwald range southwest of the Talgang which is a 566 meters high mountain. It is found on the southern edge of the Kellerwald-Edersee National Park on the upper reaches of the Lorfebach, a tributary to the Eder. Frankenau rests 10 kilometers east of Frankenberg, and 33 kilometers northeast of Marburg. Its population was 3,558 as of 31stDecember 2004 with a total area of 57.29 square kilometers. Its population density is 62 per square kilometers and the city is elevated at 435 meters.
 
The oldest surviving document about Frankenau was issued on 4th April 1266 and confirms the granting of town rights. It was for centuries a poor, small farming town. A chiefly heavy fate befell the townsfolk on 22nd April 1865 when nearly the whole town burnt down in a fire.

Frankenau is definitely one of the popular tourist attractions in Germany. It is worth paying a visit while touring the country. This place leaves a pleasing and unforgettable memory and justifies the proud cultural tradition of Germany.
