Falkenstein is a town in the Aschersleben-Stabfurt district, in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. It is located on the northeastern edge of the Harz, approximately 10 kilometers west of Aschersleben. Saxony-Anhalt is one of the sixteen Bundeslander that make up the Federal Republic of Germany. It has an area of 20,447 square kilometers, and a population of 2.6 million. Its capital is Magdeburg. The state's name is sometimes spelled Saxony Anhalt in English. The town was created in 2002 from the town Ermsleben and 6 other municipalities. It was named after the castle Falkenstein, in the southwestern part of town.
