Germany is located in Central Europe and it shares borders with Denmark in the North, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and France in the West, Austria and Switzerland in the South and Poland and the Czech Republic in the East. Bernau bei Berlin is a German city in the Barnim district. The city is located about 10 kilometers northeast of Berlin. Brandenburg  is one of Germany's sixteen Bundeslander. It lies in the east of the country as it is one of the new states created in 1990 upon the reunification of the former West Germany and East Germany. The capital is Potsdam. Brandenburg surrounds but excludes the national capital Berlin.
 
Historically Brandenburg was an independent state which grew to become the core of modern Germany. The state of Brandenburg was named after the town of Brandenburg an der Havel. The line S2 of the Berlin S-Bahn connects Bernau with Berlin. The trains take about 35 minutes to the Friedrichstrabe station in the center of Berlin. Regional rail services connect Bernau with Eberswalde, Schwedt, Stralsund, Frankfurt in northbound direction and with Berlin Hauptbahnhof and Senftenberg in southbound direction. Long-distance trains go to Stralsund, Dortmund, Dusseldorf and Dresden.
 
It can also be considered as the preeminent, historical and potential tourism destination that enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers to become one of the most visited places.
