The districts include Bantorf, Barrigsen, Barsinghausen, Eckerde, Egestorf, Goxe, Grossgoltern, Nordgoltern, Gross Munzel, Hohenbostel, Holtensen, Kirchdorf, Landringhausen, Langreder, Ostermunzel, Stemmen, Wichtringhausen, and Winninghausen. Barsinghausen adjoins Wunstorf, Seelze, Gehrden, Springe and Wennigsen. Its population in the year 2005 was 34,253 with an area of 102.65 kilometers. Its population density is 334 per square kilometers and elevation is 142 meters.
With an area of 47,618 square kilometers and nearly eight million inhabitants, Lower Saxony lies in north-western Germany and is second in area and fourth in population among the country's sixteen Lander or states of Germany. Lower Saxony borders on from north and clockwise the North Sea, the states of Schleswig-Holstein, Hamburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Brandenburg, Saxony-Anhalt, Thuringia, Hesse and North Rhine-Westphalia, and the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The state's principal cities include Hanover, Braunschweig, Osnabruck, Oldenburg, and Gottingen.
