In Germany Altoting is a town which is in Bavaria, it is capital of the district Altoting. The city had a population of 12,871 in 2004. The Free State of Bavaria in German is called Freistaat Bayern, with an area of 70,553 kilometers and 12.4 million inhabitants, forms the southernmost state of today's Germany.
 
The architectural highlights in the town are the twin-towered Stiftskirche, a late Gothic church erected in the early years of the 16th century in order to cater for the growing affluence of pilgrims, and the huge Neo-baroque Basilika, built at the beginning of the 20th century.
