Germany is one of the largest European economy and the third largest economy in the world in real terms, placed behind the United States and Japan, and fifth behind the United States, China, India and Japan counted by purchasing power parity.
 
Altena is a town in North Rhine-Westphalia, which is located in Germany. It is located in the north of the Sauerland in the Lenne river valley. The total area is of 44.29 square kilometers with the population of 20,615 inhabitants in 2005. Altena is twinned with Peronne in France since 1967, Blackburn in England since 1972 and Pinsk in Belarus since 1990. The history of Altena starts with the construction of the castle in the 12th century, which was the original seat of the Counts of the Mark.
 
The town has some points of interest where the biggest attraction is the castle Burg Altena. After being unused for centuries it was in ruins, although part of the buildings was used as a hospital. A complete reconstruction was undertaken, finished mostly by 1914, to celebrate the 300th anniversary in 1909 of the merging of Mark with Prussia Brandenburg.

Altena is definitely one of the popular tourist attractions in Germany. It is worth paying a visit while touring the country. This place leaves a pleasing and unforgettable memory and justifies the proud cultural tradition of Germany.
