Wittenberg
Germany is located in Central Europe and it shares borders with Denmark in the North, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and France in the West, Austria and Switzerland in the South and Poland and the Czech Republic in the East. The North Sea and the Baltic Sea represent additional National Borders in the North. The official language of Germany is German and Berlin is the capital. The climate is quite pleasant with almost all variety of seasonal flavors as temperate, marine, cool, cloudy, wet winters and summers, occasional warm, tropical foehn wind and high relative humidity. Germany is divided into 16 states which are further subdivided into 439 districts and cities.
Wittenberg also officially known as Die Lutherstadt Wittenberg is a town in Germany, in the Bundesland Saxony-Anhalt. It is located on the banks of Elbe River and has a total land area of 128.93 square kilometers with a population of about 50,000 inhabitants and a population density of 364 inhabitants per square kilometer.
The vitality of Wittenberg is due to its close connection with Martin Luther and the dawn of the reformation. Part of the Augustinian monastery in which Luther dwelt, at first as a monk and in later life as owner with his wife and family, is preserved, and is now the world's premier Luther museum. It contains numerous priceless historical artifacts, and portraits and other paintings by the Cranachs.
The city also has memorials that include Saint Mary's Church, in which Luther often preached and was built in the 14th century, but has been much altered since Luther's time. It contains a magnificent painting by Lucas Cranach the elder, representing the Lord's Supper, Baptism and Confession, also a font by Hermann Vischer. In addition, there are numerous historic paintings in the church.
Presently, Wittenberg experiences a sharp social, economic and population growth derivative of the strategic position of the locality and the high level of well-being and quality of life that is enjoyed with respect to other places of Germany. This fact has consolidated along with other adjacent municipalities, as a great alternative for residence.
