Witten is a German town known for its historic myths and traditions, scenic beauty, cooperative people and luxurious hotels and cottages. There are four mosques in Witten, Annen and Herbede today, which were founded by immigrants from Turkey who came in the 1970s and 1980s and are most famous tourist attractions. The town centre also has buildings in a wide range of styles that include neoclassical, modernist, noucentrist and simply eclectic.
