Germany is divided into 16 states which are further subdivided into 439 districts and cities. Germany is one of the largest European economy and the third largest economy in the world in real terms, placed behind the United States and Japan, and fifth behind the United States, China, India and Japan counted by purchasing power parity.
Weimar is a municipality in Germany. It is located in the Bundesland of Thuringia, north of the Thuringer Wald, east of Erfurt and southwest of Halle and Leipzig. Its present population is about 62,000. The oldest record of the city dates from the year 899. Weimar was the capital of the duchy of Saxe-Weimar. The area of the city is 84.26 square kilometers.
Weimar is one of the huge cultural sites of Europe, having been home to such luminaries as Goethe, Schiller and Herder. It has been a site of pilgrimage for the German intelligentsia since Goethe first moved to Weimar in the late 18th century. Famous places in the city are the city hall, Goethe and Schiller in front of the National Theater, Johann Sebastian Bach etc. Weimar is an attractive city with natural beauty and historical places, while traveling in Germany.
